There are many classifications of poker games. The essence remain almost the same, it major distinction lies in the way cards are dealt, how the card combinations are to be formed and the showdown. At showdown the money might go to the player with highest or weakest poker combination or is split between them.
The most common Poker types are Draw Poker and Stud Poker.
In Draw poker games each person receives normally five hidden cards. Then there is a betting round. After this, each remaining poker player may change some or all of their cards and get another cards.
In Stud poker games each person receives a mix of hidden and open cards dealt in several series of betting.
Both variants of poker can be played with 5 or 7 cards in one of 2 methods: high or high/low. In high poker game the highest combination succeeds the pot, where in the high/low variant the pot is split between the person with the strongest hand and the person with the lowest hand.
Texas Hold'em is a form of Draw Poker that has become the most favorite type of Poker. The game belongs to the community card game group. Each person receives 2 cards face down and shares five community cards with the rest of the players. The player with the strongest 5-card poker combination at showdown wins the game.
Omaha Hold`em is a community poker game that is somewhat similar to Texas hold`em game, where person gets 4 individual down cards and must combine his strongest hand using any 2 of their four personal cards and any 3 of the five common cards. Omaha hold`em can be of two versions i.e. Omaha-Hi and Omaha Hi-lo. In Omaha-Hi, at showdown the person with highest combination grabs the pot. But in Omaha Hi-lo, the best hand and worst hand share the pot.
Lowball poker is draw poker with the lowest poker combination grabs the pot. The most favorite lowball games are Badugi, Razz, A-5 Lowball, 2-7 Lowball.
Badugi is the most recent form of 4-card lowball poker, where the object of the game is to try to achieve the strongest low combination from the cards.
Stud, another version of game in poker also has different variations. There are the Seven Card Stud, Seven Card High-Low, Caribbean Stud Poker, Mexican Stud and other.
One of the common variants is the Seven Card Stud. Each player gets 3 hidden cards and 4 cards that must be exposed for all players to see. The aim of Seven card stud is to make the highest 5-card hand with the given seven cards.
Razz is an inversion of Seven card stud. In razz the winner is the one with the weakest combination out of each player.
